Three things refresh the heart and deliver from sorrow: water, roses and feminine beauty. This Sanskrit saying is over 4000 years old! Today, water, at least in its quality, has become scarcer. Rose species, on the other hand, have become more abundant than ever. The rose is one of the most cultivated plants in the world, occupying the number one position on the market. China, India, Kenya, Ecuador, Bulgaria, etc. produce hundreds of thousands of tons of roses. As for the beauty of women, it is eternal! But nowadays, women have more means than ever to make themselves beautiful.
Distinction and extreme grace
Certainly, the canon of beauty (NdR these are characters considered as constituting the supreme beauty and physical perfection at a certain time) changes from one era to another. Shape of the face, thinness of the attachments, hips and thighs… everything must be balanced and right so that the female creature does not have a defect in its construction. If this is not the case or if the perfection becomes faded by the friction of the years, well one has recourse to cosmetic surgery or to the kyrielles of products known as of beauty.
Questioning
When we wonder about our own beauty, we should always consider the whole shape of our own face. However, it cannot be changed. Except, of course, certain elements (nose, eyebrow arch, chin, etc.). For other parts of the body, it is different. The few photos in my article are only examples of morphologies. In reality, there are billions of them. However, there are countless women who could make their face look better by changing their hairstyle, makeup or, sometimes, simply their lifestyle. Think, for example, that such and such an abuse of food will create unsightly traces in the long run, or such and such an abuse of medication or nicotine, etc… will inevitably alter your beauty, whatever it may be.
But women have always tried to emphasize their beauty. Children, on the other hand, are not usually concerned with their own beauty. They are beautiful… just beautiful! Little girls are not so conscious of their own beauty. There was a time when they had Barbies that were supposed to help them distinguish beauty by playing with these little models. I say ‘another time’ thinking of my own daughters. It is true that in 2020 thousands of Barbies are still sold on the Internet, because they do not yet care about being beautiful. For women, it’s different. They start to attach a lot of importance to it as soon as they are teenagers. Is beauty a “short tyranny”, as a wise man of antiquity said? Nowadays, we can’t say that it is… neither short nor long. But it is also clear that a woman’s beauty changes over time. Here, take this young teenage beauty…
Physical beauty… only?
If we know a priori how to distinguish, in a face (for example, that of this beautiful brunette in her forties) what is pleasant from another face which would be less so, it is necessary to admit that I am only talking about physical beauty. And then, it is necessary to take into account the aspects and the physical specificities of each continent. You, who may have travelled around the world, will certainly have appreciated these differences which have a great charm for the traveller. Beauty certainly rhymes with goodness, true beauty and radiance coming from within. That said, it follows that each woman has her own beauty. Most of the time, women don’t know which “saint” to turn to when it comes to the countless ways to develop or maintain it. But that’s another story!
Editor’s noteThis article has provoked strong reactions within the editorial staff of Découverte, even before its publication. Philippe put forward that a beautiful woman, just like a man, is a woman who feels good in her body and in her head and that beauty is a complex and subjective alchemy. He added that approaching the subject from this angle was like “walking on eggshells”. Lisa suggested, with a big smile, to edit a mirror article on male beauty centered on “love handles and back hair”. Just goes to show, we have a sense of humor! Alain, judge of the peace and sage among the sages, suggested to rely on the intelligence and reactivity of our readers to “launch a debate” without any language. We are delivering it to you as it is because we believe that it can be considered as a basis for an open and frank discussion, without preconceived ideas because, above all, Discovery is a space for exchange between curious and open-minded people.
